United’s Direct SFO–Sapporo Flight Opens Niseko to U.S. Buyers

United Airlines is making Niseko considerably easier to reach from the United States.

Beginning 11 December 2026, United will operate the first nonstop service between the continental United States and Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport.

The seasonal San Francisco–Sapporo route will operate three times weekly aboard a Boeing 787-9 until 26 March 2027, covering the heart of Niseko’s ski season.

Could this bring more American buyers to Niseko?

Direct flights do not automatically create property demand—but they remove a major obstacle.

The route gives Niseko a direct connection to San Francisco and the wider West Coast: one of the world’s largest concentrations of technology, finance and family-office wealth.

Easier access could encourage more first-time visits, repeat stays and property enquiries from American buyers. It may also strengthen demand for premium residences and hospitality assets across the wider Niseko area.

Niseko has long attracted buyers from Australia and Asia. This new route could help accelerate its emergence as a genuinely global alpine property market.
